LENTE MINDANAO |
The Legal
Network for Truthful Elections or LENTE is an organization of lawyers, people in the legal industry and
other professionals who are committed to nation building through
monitoring election related activities and promoting an honest and truthful
election process.
Last June 29 to July 1, 2012, LENTE conducted the
Training for Trainer's Seminar at Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City. The
event was participated by representatives coming from member universities in
Mindanao like WMSU, MSU, BSU, Notre Dame University and Xavier University.
Atty. Ona Caritos and Atty. April Mabanes were the lead facilitators of the
said event. The objective of the training was to prepare the volunteers to
conduct various activities geared towards promoting the Special General
Registration of Voters for those natives of the Autonomous Region for Muslim
Mindanao. The said registration is scheduled on July 9-18, 2012 at designated
COMELEC Polls in ARMM.
The three-day seminar was an experience to
remember! The atmosphere was educating,
fun and exciting all at the same time. The event also gave me a break from
work; it also gave me the opportunity to bond with my classmates who were also
active members of LENTE Zamboanga.
Day I started very serious until Aga and I filled
the room with tension with our debates. The activity was fun and just after
every activity everything went back to normal. Although the other delegates
thought Aga and I were already taking our debate seriously. You should have
seen us in class! What you’ve witnessed was just an introduction. It rained
that night which caused me to sleep early.
Day II was a very head breaking session as technicalities
were already being discussed in response to clamours in the field during
election periods such as vote buying, “hakot” systems, ghost and flying voters
and the likes. We ended out day with socialization by taking time to party out
and relax after a very long day.
My LENTE experience was really something! Was able
to get the chance to know my classmates better which I believe was the best
output of all. Together, we all commit to do our share in living up to the
expectations of LENTE.

ZAMBOANGA: SPECIAL ARMM GENERAL REGISTRATION OF VOTERS
The Legal Network for Truthful Elections, Zamboanga
City Chapter through the leadership of its President Ms Bonita Mission
conducted a Special ARMM General Registration of Voters Campaign for schools
identified with huge numbers of students residing in the ARMM. The objective
was to spread awareness as to the need to register for them to be able to vote
in the 2013 National and Local ARMM Elections following the Nullification of
the Book of Voter’s of the ARMM which was found to be anomalous and
inconsistent with the number of residents presented by the NSO.
The LENTE Team Zamboanga also extended its scope to
neighboring Cities like Isabela City, Basilan and Lamitan City, Basilan. A
Voter’s Education Campaign was conducted by Jerrick Gerard Go and Jose Augustus
Villano. The trainers emphasized the importance of the involvement of the youth
of the new generation in bringing about change in the government and in
society.
“The good President Noy Aquino cannot move this
country alone. We as Filipinos should also do our individual share in making
sure that we eradicate corruption that other nations would bring back the trust
that was once lost. Let us love our Philippines for it is only one and one of a
kind.” – Jerrick Gerard Go
